Recipes for your Labor Day BBQ

Labor Day weekend is upon us and what better way to celebrate than through an end-of-summer barbecue bash? Perhaps you already have your tee time set at a great rate at Bucks Run Golf Club over the weekend. As a reminder, we're offering $75 for 18 holes with a GPS cart before 3PM (a savings of up to $23), and $55 after 3PM (a savings of $10). However, if you want to keep the celebration going with a cookout after your round, we have you covered.

Here are a few recipes we thought you’d like to try, as well as a golf theme if you so choose.

Theme

In keeping with the golf theme, there are lots of fun ways you can tie in this revered sport with your favorite foods, such as:
     
  • “Golf Club” sandwiches held together with golf tees.
  •  
  • Powdered sugar doughnut holes on a plate of brown sugar labeled “Sand Trap.”
  •  
  • Arnold Palmers (iced tea mixed with lemonade) as well as plain “Iced Tee.”
  •  
  • PGA sandwiches (peanut butter, grape jelly and apple slices).
  •  
  • PGA fruit salad (pineapple, grapes and apricots).
  •  
  • Potato chips labeled as “Chip Shots,” a cooler of beer as “The 19th Hole,” a pitcher of water labeled as "The Watering Hole,” watermelon wedges as "Watermelon Slice," pretzel rods as “Irons” and “Woods,” chicken wings as “Birdie,” and petit fours as “Petit Fore.”

  • Green frosted cupcakes to resemble putting greens, topped with a small flag.
  •  
  • Table runner made from artificial turf.
  •  
  • Tables decorated with glass vases or bowls filled with golf balls and tees.

  • Labor Day Burger

    You will need:
       
    • Six slices bacon
    •  
    • 1 tbsp bacon drippings
    •  
    • 1 lb. ground beef
    •  
    • 1 cup bread crumbs
    •  
    • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
    •  
    • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
    •  
    • ½ cup shredded Colby Jack cheese
    •  
    • 2 slices tomato
    •  
    • 2 slices avocado
    •  
    • Buns

    • What to Do
         
      • Cook bacon on a skillet and keep about one tablespoon of the drippings.
      •  
      • Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and bacon drippings in a bowl. Divide into four equal portions, forming each into a patty.
      •  
      • Sprinkle cheese onto two of the patties, placing second patty onto the cheese and pressing the edges together. This will make two cheese-stuffed burgers.
      •  
      • Chill in freezer for 10 minutes.
      •  
      • Preheat grill on high.
      •  
      • Place burgers onto grill, turning heat to low.
      •  
      • Cook about 10 minutes per side.
      •  
      • Add bacon, avocado slices and tomato and serve on buns.

      • Grilled Potato Salad

        Every burger needs a great side. For a grilled spin on this classic picnic food, you will need:

        Potatoes:
      • 2 lbs red potatoes
      •  
      • 2 tbsp olive oil

      • Dressing:
      • ½ cup olive oil
      •  
      • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
      •  
      • I tsp kosher salt and black pepper
      •  
      • 1 clove garlic chopped
      •  
      • ½ tsp white sugar
      •  
      • 6 slices cooked bacon chopped
      •  
      • 4 green onions chopped
      •  
      • 2 tbsp minced parsley


      • What to Do
           
        • Heat grill on medium and lightly oil grate.
        •  
        • Place potatoes in a bowl.
        •  
        • Add olive oil and toss to coat.
        •  
        • Cook on grill for about a half hour.
        •  
        • Cool potatoes and cut into quarters.
        •  
        • Whisk olive oil, pepper, vinegar, salt, garlic and sugar in bowl.
        •  
        • Stir potatoes, bacon, green onions and parsley with dressing.
